Previewing a module in Odoo

When a generation finishes, the completion screen (see generating your first module) offers Preview in Odoo — a real Odoo 19 database with the module already installed, that you can click through before deciding whether to keep it. This page covers what that button does and what to expect once you’re in.

Clicking the button signs you into the sandbox using your OdoMate session, so there’s no separate login step to reach it. You land directly on the database, already loaded with the module you just generated (and, if you turned on demo data, sample records to click through).

Once you’re on the database, Odoo shows its own login screen. Use your sandbox login and password — a separate credential from your OdoMate account, generated automatically the first time you signed in. Your Profile page shows the current login and password, and lets you generate a new one.

If the module defines more than one security group, the completion screen also lists a Test logins section: one alias login per role (for example you+manager@example.com), each using your same sandbox password. Signing in as an alias lets you verify what that role can and can’t do, separately from your main login’s full access.

The sandbox is a live database, not a snapshot — and it keeps changing while the run is still active:

  • If you turned on E2E testing and the agent found and fixed a problem while clicking through the module, it reinstalls the fix into the same preview. What you see after E2E finishes is the corrected module, not the first cut.
  • A later generation — a fresh run, or fixing and re-running — replaces the preview database you were looking at. Nothing here is meant to persist.

If you want to keep what you’re looking at, download the module (see installing a module locally) rather than treating the sandbox as a place to store work.
